📊 Recommended Power BI Settings

There are some recommended settings for Power BI. You can change these settings according to your needs.

Open Setting in Power BI Desktop ➝ File ➝ Options and Settings ➝Options

Enable Auto Recovery

File ➝ Options ➝ Current File ➝ Auto Recovery

Set recovery interval to 5–10 minutes.
Use: Prevent data loss in case of crashes.


Turn on ‘Auto Date/Time’ (Only When Needed)

File ➝ Options ➝ Data Load ➝ Time Intelligence

By default, this adds hidden date tables. Turn it off unless you're doing time-based analysis.
Use: Speeds up performance and avoids unnecessary model bloat.


Adjust Data Load Settings

File ➝ Options ➝ Data Load

✅ Auto-detect new relationships after data is loaded
Use: Helps manage large data smoothly and build models efficiently.


Disable ‘Auto Date/Time’ in Global Settings

Turn off Auto Date/Time globally to prevent hidden tables.It Keeps your data model clean and improves performance.


Increase Data Cache Management

File ➝ Options ➝ Data Load ➝ Background Data

It Improves report refresh speed, especially for large datasets.


Customize Default File & Folder Location

File ➝ Options ➝ Save

Set default save location to cloud or backup drive.
Use: Keeps files organized and easy to access.


Use Theme for Consistent Visual Style

View ➝ Themes

Choose built-in or upload a custom JSON theme.
Use: Maintain consistent colors, fonts, and design across reports.


Time Set according to Time Region

File ➝ Options ➝ Current File ➝ Regional Settings


Relationship Settings

File ➝ Options ➝ Current File ➝ Data Load ➝ Relationships

uncheck Autodetect new Relationships after data is loaded.


Map Settings

File ➝ Options ➝ Global ➝ Security ➝ Map and Fill Map Visuals

Enable Tracing (Advanced)

File ➝ Options ➝ Diagnostics

Turn on tracing only for debugging or when Microsoft support asks.
Use: Track internal Power BI processes for troubleshooting.
